CROSSHOLE SEISMIC TEST

This borehole geophysical method entails lowering a 3-component borehole geophone down a hole while also lowering a source down in the adjacent hole, firing the source at some certain prescribed depth intervals. The source and geophone are always at the same elevation, and the energy obtained from each shot is measured at a single depth in each receiver hole. The travel times are further converted to velocities by dividing them into the space between the holes. This method can help in providing very detailed seismic p- and s-wave velocity data between the closely- spaced boreholes.
